Physical Facilities Summer Student Hiring Program

Physical Facilities is accepting applications for potential job openings in its Summer Student Hiring Program and will continue to accept applications through May 31.

  • Students who have worked for Physical Facilities at Binghamton University are encouraged to apply by March 31.  

  • Employment begins Wednesday, May 21 and continues through Friday, August 15.

  • Hiring preference will be given to those students who previously worked for Physical Facilities and received a satisfactory evaluation. Questions regarding this program should be emailed to Maria Roberts, Human Resource Specialist.

  • Salary is $7.50 per hour and up depending on position. Please do not call to inquire on the status of your application; all applicants selected will be contacted via email.

The following is a brief description of potential openings:

§    Clerical/Customer Service Center/Business Office: Assists staff with answering    phones, light typing, some data entry, filing, copying, running errands, mail (distributing and sorting), office coverage (phones) during lunch hours, etc.

§    Carpentry: Assists the residence hall community maintenance person.

§    Custodial:  Moving furniture for cleaning, washing windows, sweeping and assisting        with general Residence Hall cleaning tasks.

§    Grounds:  Assists in planting, raking, hand mowing, trimming, and general grounds work.

§    Electrical: Assists in the testing of fire alarm systems in res halls by manually setting off heat and smoke detectors, recording performance, and resetting system. 

§     HVAC(Heating, ventillation, air conditioning): Assists in cleaning fin tube radiation and going for tools and materials.

§     Information Systems:  Will be involved with providing day-to-day technical support and problem resolution to computer users. This person would also assist with computer system upgrades, software installations, data entry, and hardware installations.

§     Lockshop: Assists in general housekeeping and organization of records.

§     Property Control:  Involved primarily in the inventory process for the summer. This involves going to every building on campus, and verifying the equipment listing for each room. In addition, will also be doing computer updates to the database as well as assisting in routine tagging tasks as needed.

§     Painting:  Positions within the Paint Shop will only be open to returning students with a satisfactory employment evaluation.

§     Warehouse: Assists in Central Receiving and Warehouse delivery work.
